Meniscus
The meniscus is a c-shaped cartilage that acts as a shock buffer for the knee, preventing the femur and tibia from grinding into each other. Meniscal injuries often occur alongside other knee injuries, notably ACL tears, although excessive wear and tear can easily thin out a meniscus.
Knee injuries used to be a devastating and career-ending, but advances in sports science have allowed athletes to recover from these gruesome injuries and return to playing form. If you suspect that you have injured your knee, be sure to immediately see an experienced Denver sports medicine specialist, such as one from Colorado Orthopedic Consultants, for treatment.
